Born and raised in Fort Worth, Kat has spent her life navigating a struggle with an incredibly pesky sweet tooth, crafting a deep love for patios, appetizers, and friends (which are – pro tip – best when combined), and realizing way too late in the game that she actually did enjoy working out as long as you don’t make her run.
After working in retail management for a very long decade, Kat realized that working 60+ hours a week took a toll on time with her daughter and that the pay was not worth those moments that she was missing out on. After overhearing a receptionist at her daughters pediatrician’s office mention they were hiring she submitted an application and started the next week answering phones! When the biller and coder position unexpectedly came open, they asked her if she wanted to learn and she said, “Why not!” After realizing that her skill set was definitely aligned with insurance and billing, she taught herself everything she could and worked her way up to billing manager. She has spent the rest of her time putting her heart into learning how to best help her patients receive the benefits they deserve.
When she’s not working you can find Kat with her husband, daughter, and son at various sporting events from YMCA Volleyball (GO NET NINJAS!), to college football, to NFL and MLB games. They spend as many weekends as possible on the lake at Possum Kingdom and dream up ways to get gifted a beautiful lake house and pontoon boat by a long-lost wealthy family member.
It’s her bucket list to visit every national state park and MLB Stadium in the United States, while simultaneously eating everything she can at every location.
“Finding Way Out West was a breath of fresh air in a medical world that at times can be less than helpful, it was awesome to realize that the entire staff wanted to put as much time and effort as I did into actually helping the patient and not just digging for the bottom dollar”.
